This is a hands-on career in Nigeria: employers value practical skills like wiring, fault-finding, instrumentation and site work, often before paper credentials. Entry commonly flows through internships and industrial training (SIWES), and graduates who can install, maintain and troubleshoot solar and power systems find work faster than those with theory alone. Field travel and site conditions are normal parts of the job.
Where is it heading?
2026 to 2031Electricity market reforms, expanding renewable energy (especially solar) and infrastructure renewal are visible growth drivers. The role is broadening: modern electrical engineers increasingly pair power skills with digital skills such as smart metering, automation and data.
Privatisation and market reform keep generation, transmission and distribution busy.
